A Word from our President
It is truly an honor to serve Church Women United of New York State. I am so proud of the amazing growth we have experienced across the state over the last year. I was reflecting on what to share with you. My heart is filled with happiness when I think about the friends I have gained on this journey as President. The sisterhood across New York State is absolutely wonderful because of the amazing women from diverse religious, ethnic and social backgrounds that help to support the mission of Church Women United.
Each day I wake I ask God “How can I help someone today?” God’s unconditional love for me and my family reminds me that I must continue to SHOW LOVE and SPREAD LOVE to others. So many people are suffering in the world. We can’t ignore the cries of the hurting, lost, oppressed and depressed individuals that reside in our local community. In the face of suffering, so many people are worn out by the violence and racial injustices that are crippling our nation. We can no longer remain silent about the issues. We must continue to meet the spiritual and physical needs of those within our community. It’s imperative that we work patiently and tirelessly to bring about justice. These responses are not easy. That is why peacemakers are blessed and why we must seek and rely on God’s help and guidance and endurance.
We stand for empowering people in achieving poverty eradication. We cannot do this work alone. Join a local unit in your area to begin supporting the work of CWU.
We’re celebrating the 75th birthday celebration of Church Women United. Our theme, “Remember, Rejoice, Rebuild,“ reminds us of our rich history and strong future. With this in mind, I invite you to attend the 2017 CWU New York State Assembly on April 28-29, 2017, at the Radisson Riverside Hotel in Rochester, NY.
May God continue to bless you and keep you in His care always. We will continue to be the voice for voiceless. We are hands and feet of Jesus. “If we should help somebody as we pass along then our living was not in vain.”
Peace and Happiness,
Mira J. Washington
CWU New York State President
